Learn the classic technique of Grisaille (pronounced gree-ZAI, rhymes with sky):
Grisaille is the process of creating a monochromatic underpainting and glazing color over it, traditionally using only oil paint. But now, with the (relatively) new invention of acrylics and acrylic mediums, you can achieve the impact lighting & immersive depth of Grisaille for a result that looks like oils, but without the hassle of toxic solvents and months of drying time.
Over the course of the 2-day workshop, students will produce a small 8×8 practice painting and a larger 11×14 painting. Students will be given a choice of subjects and references for each painting.

LGAA has the remaining supplies needed on hand, but please feel free to bring your own brushes, table easels, and plastic well mixing palettes if you prefer.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Adrianne Skelton is a lifelong multidisciplinary painter and a longtime Granbury resident. Her painting Memento Vitae, pictured in the workshop graphic, received both First Place and the People’s Choice Award in the LGAA’s 2026 Spring Show. The painting generated considerable interest in Adrianne’s distinctive technique, leading to an invitation to teach a workshop on the subject.
An experienced painting instructor, Adrianne is passionate about finding clear, accessible language to explain the artist’s craft. She looks forward to sharing her technique with LGAA members and helping students apply what they learn to every aspect of their work—both in the workshop and beyond.
